Apple is set to release its iMac Pro, the most powerful computer it has ever made, this week.

The desktop was first revealed back in June - but the tech giant hasn't given any more information on it until now.

Apple has said the computer - which looks like a regular iMac but in a new dark grey colour - will go on sale on Thursday, December 14. It hasn't even revealed what the prices will be, although it suggested back in June they'll start at £4,999.

The computer packs in a 27-inch 5K Retina Display and up to 22 Teraflops of graphics performance. It also supports up to 4TB of SSD storage and the ability to output to two 5K screens.

“We’re thrilled to give developers and customers a sneak peek at iMac Pro," said John Ternus, Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering back in the summer.

"This will be our fastest and most powerful Mac ever, which brings workstation-class computing to iMac for the first time.

“We re-engineered the whole system and designed an entirely new thermal architecture to pack extraordinary performance into the elegant, quiet iMac enclosure our customers love — iMac Pro is a huge step forward and there’s never been anything like it.”

This is by far the most powerful computer Apple has ever produced and is clearly aimed at high-end creative professional users.

A tiny new update for the iMac Pro appeared on Apple's website this week stating that it would be available on December 14th.
