Emmy winners 2020: Complete list with nominees

“Hello and welcome to the pand-Emmys!”

With that, late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel kicked off Sunday’s unprecedented virtual 2020 Emmy Awards  — his third time hosting — during a ceremony where one should expect the unexpected. Kimmel, 52, recently predicted the program, stirred up by the coronavirus pandemic, would be “some combination of the Emmys and ‘Big Brother’ because we don’t know for sure how it’s going to work.”

Of course, as Kimmel joked, “You know what they say: You can’t have a virus without a host.” And his exasperation about returning to the program showed right through.

“Why are we having an awards show in the middle of a pandemic?” he asked the cardboard cutout audience at LA’s Staples Center. “What the hell am I doing here? This is the year they decide to have a host?”

Kimmel handed out the first award — to Outstanding Actress, Comedy winner Catherine O’Hara, star of “Schitt’s Creek” — in an appropriate way with in-person help from nominee Jennifer Aniston. After spraying the envelope with disinfectant and setting it on fire, Aniston gamely pulled out a fire extinguisher to douse the flames before the big reveal. For the second award of the night, O’Hara’s co-star, Eugene Levy, completed the comedy pairing by taking home the Outstanding Actor, Comedy award.

In a surprise to, well, no one, “Schitt’s Creek” went on to historic sweep of the seven top comedy awards. Creator and star Daniel Levy — gathered with his cast and crew in Toronto, Canada — offered G-rated shock to the wins, exclaiming, “Holy cow. Oh, my goodness.” He went on to thank his father, series actor Eugene Levy, for his support, and expressed that writing the series has been the greatest, most cathartic experience of my life.”

The show was stacked with predictable entrants — looking at you, “The Crown,” and your highness, Olivia Colman — as well as pleasant surprises, including Outstanding Comedy nominee “What We Do in the Shadows.” And while a traditional red-carpet primp parade was nixed, some nominated celebs — like Emmy winner (Outstanding Actress, Drama) “Euphoria” star Zendaya — still dressed up. Or had the option of giving “designer pajamas” a whirl — with Aniston signing right up. Presenters, on the other hand, will merge haute with hazmat this year.

Tyler Perry and his eponymous foundation also received the Television Academy’s 2020 Governors Award, with accolades from Chris Rock and Oprah Winfrey.

The 72nd Emmy Awards telecast aired live on ABC — but the academy started revealing some major award winners, including first-timer Eddie Murphy, over the last few days.

Here is the complete list of nominees and winners (again, many of whom have already been announced, so keep scrolling) which will be updated in real-time throughout the live broadcast:
