Russian govt working on solving problem of Turkish Airlines denying Russian passengers access to Latin America flights - Kremlin

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - The Russian government in general and Foreign Ministry in particular are working hard to solve the problem of Turkish Airlines denying Russian passengers access to transit flights to Latin America from Istanbul, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"The problem is chiefly on the Turkish side. Without waiting for top-level contacts, our diplomatic service is working very actively and so is our government, which has said repeatedly that this situation is unacceptable for us, for Russian citizens. Our embassy in Ankara is working," Peskov told journalists while commenting on the situation.

Reporters asked Peskov whether President Vladimir Putin planned to discuss the matter with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We have very constructive and friendly relations with the Turkish side. We'll take advantage of these relations to solve problems that inevitably emerge, to our regret," Peskov replied.

"The friendly nature of our relations [with Turkey] makes us believe that all such issues will be settled," he said.

Media reported earlier that Russian clients of Turkish Airlines have been increasingly more often denied access to transit flights to Latin American countries at Istanbul airport.
