Maripily Rivera

Maripily Rivera captivated the Puerto Rican public during her time at La Casa de los Famosos.

Puerto Ricans are called their roots, wherever there is one, their compatriots unite to support them and stand up for them and so it has been marked throughout history, in sports, in beauty pageants, in science and in reality shows, it has not been the exception.

Madison Anderson and Maripily Rivera are the most recent examples after their consecutive victories on Telemundo's La Casa de los Famosos (LCDLF).

"We all like to dream, watch television to dream and these platforms bring many people who have been cultivating dreams and desires to be able to live from their art," said the president of Telemundo Puerto Rico, Migadlia Figueroa, while highlighting her openness to this type of project, as she did when she received the call for Objetivo Fama to be broadcast through the television station she leads.

Although he stressed that this type of entertainment programs "are cyclical," he acknowledged that "at this time there is an appetite for them again."

Meanwhile, for producer Soraya Sánchez, reality shows are "a connection".

"Nowadays, we like stories and series, but when you see a story that you can identify with, that in every home in our country someone sings, someone plays an instrument, someone dreams of being able to be on a stage and sing it. So, I believe that this identification with genuine people of flesh and blood makes me capture and that is achieved by this type of program," he said. "They are life itself, like a novel of life," he continued.

Meanwhile, the professor of communications at the University of Puerto Rico, Eliseo Colón Zayas, agreed that this type of programming is cyclical and is part of the history and culture of our country and the world.

"By '79, approximately, with that transformation that was already taking place in Europe on television, (reality shows) began to become visible. However, they began to grow in the 90s and since then, they have become a program of excellence," he said.

"People live from them and all this type of program and how they see themselves now come from innovation and the tools that have come with digitalization such as streaming," he said.

Currently, in Puerto Rico it is broadcast through local channels: the All-Star edition of LCDLF and Super Chef Celebrities. However, between seasons, Exatlón Estados Unidos, Top Chef VIP and Los 50 are also broadcast.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Latina, which will be broadcast on Telemundo, is approaching, at a time when an indefinite postponement of what would be a new version of Nuestra Belleza Latina, which aired for more than a decade through Univision, was notified.

This year formats such as Objetivo Fama also return, after 15 years of audience and according to its producer, Soraya Sánchez, the program will be adapted to the current era, so it is expected that the coexistence of the 20 singers who are selected to compete for a musical contract will be broadcast 24/7.

On the other hand, last December Wapa Television confirmed that it is preparing a "new musical format", without offering many details.
