New England is experiencing another warm day on Tuesday, with scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder as multiple fronts pass through the region. Temperatures have reached the 60s for the second straight day, but as we reach the April halfway mark, the month has run about 2 degrees cooler than average.
Quick look Wednesday
The temperature will crash on Wednesday as colder air funnels into the region behind Tuesday’s system. Highs will reach the low 50s after a chilly commute in. Coastal New England, including Boston, should stay dry under mostly cloudy skies.
Scattered, light rain and mountain snow showers are possible across Northern New England, but little accumulation is expected. It’ll remain blustery across New England, with wind gusts reaching 20 miles per hour at times.
The setup
The low that swept two fronts through New England on Tuesday will stall and meander over Eastern Canada, bringing a cyclonic flow across our region Wednesday. This means we’ll see a shot of cooler air, a hearty westerly breeze, and bits of backside precipitation push into New England.
Most of New England will stay dry under partly to mostly cloudy skies, but the farther north and west you go, you can expect to see a few scattered, light showers or flurries as the westerly flow sparks a few upslope cells of precipitation. Accumulation will be very minimal and not impactful.

Boston and Coastal New England will have the best chance at seeing sunshine break through.
You’ll feel the chill in the air as you head out the door. Morning temperatures will range from the mid-30s to the low 40s, but the breeze will make it feel closer to the freezing mark.

Afternoon highs will reach the low 50s, just a few degrees below the average for this time of the month. Interior portions of New England will likely only reach the mid- to upper 40s.

Winds will range from 10 to 15 miles per hour, keeping it brisk out there. There could be a handful of gusts reaching 25 to 30 miles per hour, which could blow around any loose items in the backyard or bring down a few small branches.
Temperatures rebound Thursday and Friday with sunshine and build into the 70s on Saturday, which happens to coincide with the next round of rain to enter the region — marking the sixth consecutive weekend that rain has fallen in Boston.
